Every year there are albums released early on which hang around all year and inevitably end up featuring in all the end of year polls and lists, this is one of them, an exciting debut from the New Yorkers with a unique brand of Afro-tinged indie-pop, lo-fi yet infectious like fellow New Yorkers The Strokes but with added intrigue due to their distinctly ‘geeky’ appearance and intelectual lyrics.
Already receiving rave reviews from across the music media masses (check that alliteration kids) this album is likely to gain the Brooklyn band some fanatical followers and also ignite some interest in their African/Carribean influences which is always a good thing. Let’s keep it simple, if there is one album you buy in this month, make it this one!
