We’ve been wanting to run this piece for some time but thanks to the state of this years British summer we haven’t quite felt in the mood, however, following a week in the sunshine of Rome, we’re feeling a bit more summery, which is a good thing for you as we’re finally sharing our list of favourite tees with you.
Thanks to the DIY ethic of the web there are more and more chances to pick up alternative fashion finds as graphic designers, bands and start-up labels are all using creativity and ease of reaching their market to the fullest potential and there is just so much stuff around, as usual, we’ve done all the digging for you and unearthed 29 t-shaped gems to see you through the rest of the summer!
01. Fayte Basics by Fayte, 02. Tee 6 by Electronic Poet 03. Think About Design by John Slade at Concrete Hermit
We love Fayte’s limited edition pieces that they see as more art than fashion and limited to 100 only (and never to be repeated) this tee is definitely worth picking up, elsewhere, Electronic Poet is a great new label worth checking out and Concrete Hermit is a brilliant design collective with an online shop selling clothing, prints, art books and toys, again you must check them out.
04. And How Are You Feeling Today? by Jan Avendano at Threadless, 05. After The Rain Comes a Rainbow by -apy- at Design By Humans, 06. Air Max Addict at Urban Outfitters
And How Are You Feeling Today? is another winner from Threadless, on a similar note Design By Humans is a t-shirt collaboration site in the same vein with similarly high quality. We couldn’t resist the trainer addict top from Urban Outfitters as it just sums us up totally!
07. Aloha by SustainabiliTee, 08. All Over Ladies by HelloMinor
We’ve actually shown you the HelloMinor tee before a while back but had to include it as it’s still one of our favourites, SustainabiliTee are definitely worth checking out thanks to their simple styling and ultra-ethical practices, one to make you feel good about yourself.
09. Green Tee by Cassette Playa, 10. Shape Scape by Mike Perry, 11. Paint Bucket by The Imaginary Foundation
3 pretty loud pieces here, we’ve said it before but you’ll certainly be hearing a lot more of Cassette Playa, Mike Perry is one of those many enterprising graphic designers who are showcasing their talents through online stores on their portfolio websites and the Paint Bucket t-shirt is a great little number from Swiss art/design/thought-provokers The Imaginary Foundation.
12. Fred Perry & Sons DSM Special Polo at Dover Street Market, 13. Colour Change T by Anzevino & Florence
Ultra hip London store Dover Street Market always has a wide array of unique pieces and this exclusive available from their website is one of a number of wild retro Fred Perry collabs that are hot hot hot, talking of hot budding haute couture types Anzevino & Florence are reviving the hypercolour scene with these brilliant colour changing tops.
14. I Love LA Tee by Archrival, 15. Regal T-Shirt by Subscript, 16. Yellow Radio T-Shirt by VelvetBanana
3 t-shirts from underground fashion houses, the pick of the bunch being the incredibly detailed print on Subscript’s Regal T-Shirt which also has a great cut and quality fabric.
17. Hand Drawn T by Dave Is Drawing, 18. Girl x Target by Original Fake
For something a bit more exclusive, arty type ‘Dave’ (who was born on the same day as Mick Jagger, so his website tells us) allows you to send him a plain tee and $30 along with a bit of info about yourself and he’ll return a custom made T especially for you! The other one is a hot design from stupidly cool artist KAWS.
19. Arms & Legs by Kevin John Gomez, 20. Bad Dream T-Shirt by Pony Attack, 21. New York T-Shirt by Passarella Death Squad
Interactive designers are getting in on the act too and web designer slash blogger, Kevin John Gomez has produced a really great design on sale through his personal site. We suggest checking out the detail on the New York t-shirt on your own and preferably not in work as it’s slightly raunchy, which is of course good, check out Passarella Death Squad’s other work, they’re a surefire label to watch.
22. Green Clouds Shirt by Marthuba, 23. X-Ray Specs by Rockers NYC
The simple and elegant typography of the green clouds shirt by young Zürich based urban label Marthuba works beautifully, slightly more rawkus is the Kingston Town reggae influence from New York based rasta label Rockers NYC.
24. Sailing by Sweden Graphics at Sixpack, 25. Cat T-Shirt by Grizzly Bear, 26. Pro Celebrity News by Datrumpf at Seee
You can always rely on French hipsters Sixpack to bring some hot clothing and the bright tee here from Sweden Graphics via Sixpack is no exception, the cat tee shows indie bands getting in on the graphic design clothing act thanks to some guest artists (check out the others in this range). The other tee here is from limited edition t-shirt and zine project SEEE, who we hope to be featuring more of soon.
27. Surrender x Robert Del Naja by Surrender, 28. Clownin by alife, 29. Back Once Again by Lowman
Finally we’ve got a collaboration with Robert Del Naja, aka 3D of Massive Attack fame, a simple but iconic design from obscenely hip downtown Manhattan label alife and another hot typographical number from graphic designer Jonathan Looman.
