Following a pretty bad 2007 which included a dead rapper being found in a room amongst reports of a general decline, the landmark LA hotel (originally designed by design superstar, Philippe Starck and opened in 1996) has undergone somewhat of a freshening up at the hands of acclaimed, award winning designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz. A Hollywood style bash where hoards of celebs and Paris Hilton enjoyed a live performance by Cat Power was held last week (4th September) in the remodeled ADCB bar to relaunch this iconic hotel and it’s restored feeling of grandeur.

Los Angeles Mondrian

Bold and surreal, yet essentially Californian, open air spaces allow guests to enjoy the beautiful West Coast weather whilst ensuring that they don’t need to leave extravagant luxury and opulence far behind thanks to an open air living room and the inside-outside mix of the famous Skybar. Inside, white curtains, glowing glass walls and quirky finishings such as the iconic feather lampshades courtesy of uber-cool New York lighting chaps, ABYU.

Each one of the 237 rooms have floor to ceiling windows that offer an unrivaled view of Downtown LA and Noriega-Ortiz’ vision of surreal Hollywood glamour is finely showcased in each of the accommodations with their grand rotating mirrors with white lacquer frames which reveal flat-screen televisions on the other side and custom designed furniture throughout. Silestone tiled bathrooms with waterfall shower fixtures, oversized daybeds, sustainable bamboo floors, and Korres Natural Products are a few of the luxuries you can expect to enjoy.

Add to the mix the legendary Asia de Cuba restaurant which maintains it’s original Starck design, a sumptuous penthouse dressed in antique gold and bronze, the relaxed pool and outdoor living room with teak deck and underwater music and (also recently renovated) Agua Spa and you have yourself a piece of LA style which is impossible to ignore, if your flying into LAX in the near future then we suggest heading straight to the Sunset Strip and the iconic Los Angeles Mondrian hotel.
