One of the most special and exciting things about London is it’s multi-cultural influences and one of the first things we think of when experiencing a melting pot of nationalities and cultures is the chance to enjoy cuisines from around the world. One of those most commonly misinterpreted throughout the UK is that of the Turkish, Eastern Mediterranean cuisine, thanks in no small part to the anglocised abomination of the traditional Turkish snack, the donner kebab! Turkish Cypriot brothers Levent and Bulent Hassan, set out six years ago to heighten our awareness of Ottoman cuisine and to rid us of these preconceived ideas. They opened Kazan, a no-hype restaurant that let the food do the talking, and talk it did with the restaurant becoming a massive word-of-mouth success.

Their mission to bring fine Ottoman cuisine to discerning diners has been successful, so much so that they have now opened a second restaurant in the city, offering the same informal mezze selections alongside beautifully crafted dishes featuring exquisite koftes, sensational fish kebabs and expertly grilled market fresh meats. With the dishes drawing influences from Turkey, Cyprus, Persia, Greece and the Lebanon, Kazan offers something wildly different to all else on the London dining circuit, and with an informal atmosphere and refreshingly reasonable pricing, the second Kazan looks set to be just as successful as it’s predecessor.
