Scientifically proven to lower cholesterol, high levels of the antioxidant anthocyanin, ideal for a low carb diet and looking pretty damn cool, black rice is set to be one of the healthier food trends this year. Widely cultivated across Asia, black rice contains more nutrients than both white and brown and certainly stands out in terms of presentation. Acclaimed chef Ian Pengelley, of Camden’s Gilgamesh restaurant, has put together an eclectic black rice menu that is an exciting introduction to a trend which looks set to feature heavily on Pan-Asian menus in upper class joints around the UK in 2009.

Black Rice Risotto with King Crab, Yuzu, Truffle and Bonito, Stir Fried Black Rice, Black Rice Sushi Roll, Tempura of Warm Chilean Sea Bass Nigiri, Black Sticky Rice and Barbequed Pork wrapped in Bamboo Leaf are just some of the black rice delights on the new menu at Gilgamesh, a Camden based Asian restaurant that is well worth checking out not just for the eclectic menu but also for the stunning interior design.
