An abbreviation of Material Culture, MAT/CULT/ is the work of product designer Jonathan Sabine, a designer with a passion for iconic objects and social impact. His ‘Smuggling Plates’, a series of dinner plates adorned with goods which are commonly smuggled, perfectly summarise the nature of his work, challenging, political yet soaked with wry humour. His ‘Bourgeois Brass Knuckles’ bottle opener come knuckle duster is his most challenging yet playful work, whilst his ‘Beads’ hanging lamp series showcases his ability to create beautiful design objects that are not out of place on a Wallpaper* shoot.
