If ever a building was more befitting it’s location…. Hoto Fudo is a wonderfully apt creation in such an area of imposing natural beauty. Part cloud, part igloo, this unique construction, with it’s soft, curvaceous exterior and wide openings, exposing the elements outside, gives the illusion of nature, open space and of the famous snow capped mountain in the distance. Designed by Japanese studio Takeshi Hosaka Architects, Hoto Fudo is designed to be open in all but the most extreme of weather conditions, being at one with the elements is seemingly key to the project as the smooth domes are designed to bring rain close to the openings and allow fog to come into the building…. whilst this may not make for the most hospitable of Japan’s restaurants, we can think of no better setting to enjoy traditional Japanese ‘hoto’…..
