Restaurant Tusen, Ramundberget

beautifully discrete mountain top retreat....

Restaurant Tusen, Ramundberget

A winner at last year’s ‘World Architecture Festival’ in Barcelona, Restaurant Tusen, designed by Swedish architects Murman Arkitekter, is a wonderfully discrete building that perfectly befits it’s exposed surroundings. Almost religious or tribal in it’s design, the restaurant sits in solitude within the mountains of the Ramundberget resort, a resort that prides itself upon resisting intrusive growth, and one for which Tusen is so very well suited. It’s circular form affords breath-taking 360 degree views, whilst the nature of it’s exterior allows for snow to rest on it’s façade, creating a graceful camouflaged appearance, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the scenery…. at one with nature, this is architecture at it’s very best….

The building finds its place between slow growing birch trees, brooks and rocks. A location that emphasises the buildings relation to the nature, summer and winter. From this site you have a wide view over well-known mountains in Sweden as Helags and Skars. You see no other buildings from the site where you have easy access to the ski slopes.

We wanted a building that harmonise with the landscapes character both in shape, design and material. Obvious visible on a distance with an inviting entrance area to the south. The restaurant will work a sunny day as well in a vowing winter day around one of the fireplaces inside.
