You can literally feel the calm washing over you as you gaze longingly at these peaceful images, or maybe that’s just us finally relaxing after three days of internet connection difficulties… we’ve certainly been dreaming of lazy days in a quaint Spanish village, if not just to nullify the desire to break things whilst spending countless hours on hold to call centres. Zahara de la Sierra in the south of Spain is one such village…. a white washed ‘Pueblos Blancos’ nestled in Andalucían hills that roll down to a water reservoir. It is in that reservoir that the local council has established a recreation centre, commissioning Spanish architect Julio Barreno to design a non-intrusive holding unit for the centre’s canoes…. and non-intrusive this building is, slick and contemporary with it’s wedge like appearance, yet when viewed from afar, beautifully complimenting the traditional white buildings around.
