Launching in Berlin Hauptbahnhof, the city’s central station, last week, iconic design store Berlinomat‘s ‘Design Vending Machine’ is a rather refreshing upgrade for the humble vending machine. Developed for the store by design team COORDINATION, the Hauptbahnhof prototype will soon be joined by a second and third test – at both Tegal airport and Galeries Lafayette – before rolling out internationally. Claiming to use “the established mechanics of online shopping”, the animated touchscreen interface presents detailed descriptions of all 42 Berlin designed products, ranging from clothing accessories and travel essentials to gifts and even a pepper mill….. offering a glance at the future of shopping, this is an inspirational project with very real potential….
