OK, so we claim to deliver the finest content in lifestyle, design and international trends… we’re probably unlikely to present a feature about public loos in Japan then? Wrong. We were suitably impressed with Tokyo based architect, Shuichiro Yoshida’s intelligent use of space… in fact, enough so to feature a humble public lavatory on the site. Housed on less than 9m2 of ground space, our first featured loos are in the grounds of an “Ishi-Kura”, a historic storage building – many of which were destroyed or fell into disrepair following the second world war, in Chikusei, Japan. After a volunteer group took over the historic building, Yoshida was commissioned to provide toilet services, faced however with the daunting task of delivering said facilities onto such a tiny spot of land. His solution though, demands attention – beautifully befitting the history of the surrounding area, and adding clean and contemporary elegance to boot…. if we must bring you public toilets, then we’ll ensure that they’re always of such high standards…..
