Former Dior Homme creative director, and responsible for the famous skinny black suit / white shirt / black tie silhouette that became synonymous with the brand and of those in the UK indie scene who so regularly sported the look – most famously including friend and muse, Peter Doherty – Frenchman Hedi Slimane also has a keen ear for upcoming talent. And, there’s no hotter an upcoming talent in the UK right now than Manc kids – and we quite literally mean kids – Egyptian Hip Hop…..

Having earmarked them as one to watch in our 2010 music preview back in January, we were suitably blown away when first seeing them live at this year’s Glastonbury. Their set, which kicked off with a Queens of the Stone Age style psych-rock onslaught and climaxed with indie-dance ecstasy that Delphic could only dream of, took in everything from The Cure and The Smiths to Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart inbetween, and was for us at least, quite possibly one of the sets of the weekend. Slimane clearly agrees, and as they ready the release of their first EP proper on September 20th – ‘Some Reptiles Grew Wings’ is produced by Glasgow’s brilliant Hudson Mohawke – and their biggest UK tour to date, these delightfully candid images, all awash with youthful naivity, will no doubt define a pivotal moment in their lives…..
