With so much high-end design, from the industry’s leading names, being showcased throughout this year’s London Design Festival it’s perhaps somewhat of a surprise that an East London collective would even contemplate the idea of an inspired retail space, stocked with inspired product, that offers everything for, well, a ‘quid’… yet that’s exactly what they’ve done. The Poundshop concept store, near Bethnal Green station, is the brainchild of design collective Household and freelance illustrator Sara Melin and stocks all manner of lovingly produced design curiosities from upcoming artists, product designers and fashion designers all at the mind meltingly ridiculous price of just one, solitary English pound. Throw that into an innovatively designed space courtesy of Asif Khan and you have one of the festival’s ultimate quirky highlights…
