Flowerpots for chip bowls and lampshades, growing herbs on your table, a garden lounge and a flower shop – the latest venture from Drake & Morgan is a real oasis in the heart of the hustling, bustling City of London. With its hugely eclectic interiors and unique offerings it’s easy to overlook what’s key to a great bar/restaurant – food, service and ambience – but thankfully that’s an oversight the proprietors have most certainly not made, The Folly is a splendid example of what makes a venue memorable rather than just superficially impressive.

There’s a decidedly relaxed approach to service, and with sharing boards and dishes such as crispy squid with ginger, pink peppercorns and citrus mayo and chicken satay with peanut sauce and prawn crackers to tuck into amongst friends, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a hard days sinking the economy. After tucking into a delightful côte de boeuf we were most pleasantly surprised by their rather lovely drink/desert mashups, one chocolate chilli martini and a strawberry cheesecake “with a twist”.

Aesthetically unique, without forgetting what really matters, The Folly is most certainly one of London’s hot new dining destinations…
