With Stuttgart’s club scene moving in recent years to Theodor-Heuss-Straße, long-standing party spot Mash decided to follow, with a suitably impressive multi-purpose – café by day, restaurant for lunch and dinner, and club by night – venue, courtesy of local architects, Ippolito Fleitz. Mash’s centrepiece is a beautiful, surrealist collage – courtesy of local artist Monica Trenkler – that has been, by specialist printers, impressed onto tiles that comprise a spectacular suspended ceiling. Everything from there is a lesson in muted, refined elegance, whilst the bar is surrounding by 2,500 individually suspended plastic batons distorting the subtle lighting with enchanting effect. Achieving an intimate, calm atmosphere in a sizeable venue is always a hard task, but thankfully for the team behind Mash, one that Ippolito Fleitz have effortlessly mastered…
