With its head of a lion and body of a fish, the imaginary Merlion statue has been an icon of Singapore since 1972 and, having been relocated to the current Merlion Park that fronts Marina Bay in 2002, the iconic figure is now ready to take centre stage in what has to be one of the most sensational hotel rooms of all time. Open for just 32 nights from 4th April, the one-room Merlion hotel is the work of Berlin-based Japanese artist Tatzu Nishi and is the star attraction of this year’s Singapore Biennale – albeit that all rooms sold out within an hour of general release. For everyone else intrigued by this utterly unique proposition, the doors are open – free of charge – during the day to witness, first-hand, this truly remarkable work…
