Independent Label Market, Berwick Street

Label bosses set up stall armed with obscurities and ltd editions...

This Saturday, Soho’s Berwick Street plays host to perhaps the most fascinating record buying event it’s seen since its heady days as one of the country’s epicentres of independent music in the 1990s. Having once been packed to the rafters with independent record shops, music fans and musicians – the street is also famously pictured on the cover of some album by a pub-rock band from Manchester – Berwick Street will this weekend be taken over by the bosses of some of the world’s most influential independent record labels, all setting up their own stall from which to trade rarities, special editions and merchandise – whilst being joined by a selection of their bands. The likes of XL, Moshi Moshi, Domino, Mute and Heavenly will all be joining in, whilst These New Puritans, Klaxons, Yuck, White Lies, Hot Chip and many more will be offering up obscurities or putting in performances.

As a follow up to the massively successful Record Store Day, the Independent Label Market promises to be one of the most exciting independent record buying events in recent times – we’ve caught up with some of the label bosses involved and will be posting our interviews between now and Saturday, stay tuned…
