Highlands influenced collection from Florida-born designer...

Having moved to London over ten years ago from Florida, designer Corrie Nielsen cites the withered historical parts of the city as one of her greatest sources of inspiration. It should be no surprise then, that her Autumn/Winter 12 collection harps back to her Scottish great, great, great grandfather who emigrated from Scotland to the United States at roughly the same time as the Revolutionary War. It was this reference to the Highland clans that truly tied together Nielsen’s show and gave it a coherent voice.

While the tartan print and structured waists channel the work of Dame Vivienne Westwood, they are entirely unique when combined with Nielsen’s signature aesthetic. Impeccable tailoring, gravity defying silhouettes and architecturally sewn necklines are the true highlights of any Nielsen collection – all were out in abundance for the designer’s latest show.
