Dutch designer's sci-fi feminism...

Acclaimed Dutch designer Mattijs Van Bergen presented his Autumn/Winter collection in London this past weekend. To say the show was the unexpected highlight of my day would be a gross understatement.

Certainly there was a hefty dose of beautifully crafted avant-garde pieces, but what really set Mattijs apart from other emerging designers was the wearability factor. Who would have thought a navy jumper could so easily be transformed into a must-have item?

The atmosphere at his show was so invigorating that I struggled not to dance in my seat. Inspired by the fictional characters from beloved bygone movies, models marched down the catwalk to ‘The Imperial March’ from Star Wars. Rather than channel the frosty demeanor of Darth Vader though, Mattij’s girls were the epitome of sci-fi feminism. If this is what the future looks like then take me now.
