Kristine Five Melvær

Cosy isn't the word for Norwegian designer's warm glow...

Norwegian designer Kristine Five Melvær presented a series of lighting products at this year’s Stockholm Design Week. The Oslo National Academy of the Arts graduate put your cherished objects, precious trinkets and general acquired oddities centre-stage with her delightful Light Jars – that came over all ‘elegant, curio-laboratory chic’ – whilst the designer’s Sunday lamps kindle emotions of lazy Nordic weekends – candles glowing, and all manner of Scandi-snugness.

Melvær continues the theme of warm glow with her Ray lamps – delicately unusual, sculptured pieces that appear to suggest a traditional lamp’s outline, but given a fragile – almost human-like – skin. All in all, Melvær’s works won our coveted ‘most likely to make you want to stay in your pyjamas, close the curtains, and curl up under a big wool throw’ award, for products seen at this year’s fair…
