A Year in Development

From album covers and arts editorial, to documentary projects on the Arab Spring and international unrest; London’s Labyrinth Photographic Printing is a new traditional darkroom studio dedicated to the disappearing art of film photography. A Year in Development showcases works from 50 of the talented clients they’ve had through the door since their inception 12 months ago; offering a unique insight into the powerful work of those who refuse to believe that this age-old craft is on its last legs.

‘A Year in Development’ Exhibition at Labyrinth, Four Corners, 121 Roman Road, Bethnal Green, London, E2 0QN; Running until 1st March

Charline Von Heyl’s Now or Else

Disregarding the late-modernism school of thought, that suggests an emphasis on a singular style; German artist Charline Von Heyl’s work is diverse, unique – and always unexpected. Charline von Heyl at Tate Liverpool is the first major UK show of her arresting and unconventional work.

Charline Von Heyl’s Now or Else at Tate Liverpool, Albert Dock, Liverpool, L3 4BB; Runs 24th February to 27th May. Open daily 10:00am to 5:00pm. Admission £8/£6 (Gift Aid with donation)

With previous and upcoming exhibitions around the world (including at London’s Saatchi Gallery), Pascual is getting herself somewhat of a deserved international reputation for her beautiful mixed-breed style of photography, sculpture and installation art.

Marlo Pascual at Casey Kaplan Gallery, 525 West 21st Street, New York, NY 10011; Running until 24th March. Gallery opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday 10:00am – 6:00pm

Basel Fasnacht/Carnival

27 – 29 February

Basel Fasnacht/Carnival

One of Europe’s great carnivals, Basel’s Fasnacht is a typically extravagant fusion of drum-banging shenanigans, fabulously creative costumes, and political and social satire – a kind of amalgamation of Glastonbury’s hippy fields and Have I Got News for You, if you will. It kicks off on Monday and lasts just three days, so – if you’re in the mood for some aesthetically pleasing organised chaos (and who isn’t?) – better head to the Rhine-side city where Swiss, German and French borders meet.

Basel Fasnacht, In and Around Basel; Running Monday 27th to Wednesday 29th February

Reel Islington Film Festival 2012

A Snapshot; Behind the scenes of Sherlock Holmes, The Arts Gallery, 272 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7EY; Running until 9th March. Gallery opening hours are Monday to Friday, 11:00am – 6:00pm

24 – 26 February

The Real Food Market, Southbank Centre

Going weekly last Summer, the Southbank Centre’s Real Food Market has fast become one of the city’s most essential destinations for quality fresh produce, from some 40 carefully selected retailers. So, if you could eat a horse after a day spent loading up on culture – this is your spot. Although they probably don’t actually sell horse. This is London, not France.

The Real Food Market, Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall, Outside Canteen Restaurant, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XX; Running 24th – 26th February. Opening times Friday, 12:00pm – 8:00pm, Saturday, 11:00am – 8:00pm and Sunday, 12:00pm – 6:00pm
