Cabin, Waterloo Station

Attempting to put a little glamour back on the tracks...

These days, travelling by train is a depressing experience. Cramped seating, tickets that have to be booked 3 weeks in advance if you don’t want to have to sell your corneas to afford one, mothers who bring their rampaging 3-year-old wailing she-beast into THE QUIET CARRIAGE!!! Where has the romance of train travel gone?

For those who yearn for a return to the days before Dr Beeching, who dream of an encounter with Cary Grant or Eva Marie Saint à la North by Northwest rather than super-stressed John Cleese in Clockwise, here’s Cabin, a destination in itself. The new bar at Waterloo station, London, is the first to offer a self-service wine machine at a major station, so you don’t have to sheepishly flag down the waiter for your third pre-lunch pinot grigot, and is serving up tapas to go with the cocktail menu as well as a selection of tasty-sounding ales.

Whether you’ve just got off a train or are about to get on, you’ll probably need a drink, and what better place to get one?
