Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa

Mother nature lends awesome vista to Patagonia retreat...

The great thing about building a hotel in a UNESCO-protected national park is that you’re already 90% there before you’ve stuck a shovel in the ground. There can’t be many more spectacular views for guests to marvel at than those offered by the Torres Del Paine, at the convergence of the southern Chilean pampas and Lake Sarmiento.

Happily, the final 10% provided by the Tierra hotel group does its best to live up to the surroundings. Wood inside and out is an attempt to blend in rather than dominate the scenery, and it works well; the low profile to the building is very sympathetic, and, while nothing man-made is ever going to add to such natural beauty, it’s a big compliment to say the Tierra hotel does nothing to detract from it.

To be honest though, this place is all about the scenery. Long stretches of window along the front of the building seek to maximise the view, and what a view. Yes, there are spa treatments and blah blah blah blah, but… just look out of the window.
