Boqueria

East meets west at far-flung tapas bar...

Barcelona-inspired tapas bar Boqueria has proven such a success at its flagship New York location that it has expanded its horizons to offer the traditional taste of Spain in cosmopolitan Hong Kong.

There are plenty of authentic design touches at Boqueria, such as the classic Moorish blue-and-white tiling behind the counter, and some allusions to the name (La Boqueria is one of Barcelona’s famed food markets) like the way the cured meats are hung on display. The tables have a lovely deep colour, echoed by the rich chocolate seats with nice contrasting yellow piping. Architect Hernan Zanghellini can take the credit for the interior design.

Diners can simply sip a sangria, tuck into traditional tapas or share something more substantial like a paella from renowned chef David Izquierdo and his team while taking in the bustle at Boqueria. Well worth a nibble.
