Crosby Street Hotel

To a new manor born...

In the words of Rupert Brooke “…there’s some corner of a foreign field that is forever England”, and while the quote is a gross misappropriation, taken out of context it does seem to sum up Crosby Street Hotel in New York, the first in what the owners hope will be a group of immigrant hotels introducing some British style across the pond.

Already well-established as London hoteliers, Tim and Kit Kemp have made an unhurried, tweed-suited stroll into hip SoHo – with an 86-room boutique establishment with more than a touch of the country pile about it. Kit, who is the team’s design director, has employed a strong theme of nature and wildlife in her décor. Wood sculptures and hunting dogs abound, and even more striking for a city spot is the central garden – relaxed, airy, a perfect place to escape city life. And while there is old money grandeur here, there is no stuffiness to be found anywhere; in fact the hotel as a whole is bursting with freshness.

Watch out America. The Brits are coming back.
