Stanley Kubrick at LACMA

Looking back at a genuine filmmaking great...

Stanley Kubrick. And that should really be the end of our input on this retrospective, such is the stature of the cinematic colossus’ renown, reputation and back catalogue.

However, it’s only polite that we indulge you with a few more facts about The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s look back at Kubrick’s career, which has been put together with the help of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (that lot that hand out the Oscars), Kubrick’s estate, and the Deutsches Filmmuseum, Frankfurt.

This is not just a re-run of Kubrick’s films, but rather an examination of the artistic component of his cinematic output, housed in the aforementioned LACMA gallery/museum rather than a film theatre, although there is a chance to see some of the maestro’s celluloid classics at the organisation’s Bing Theatre. We can’t believe anyone has made it to adulthood without seeing at least one of his flicks, but in case you grew up in a cult, for sheer power of iconography alone, Kubrick deserves his place in the pantheon of greats. Head over to the Art of the Americas building before 30th June 2013, with your eyes wide open.
