Alfred & Constance

Eclectic marriage made in heaven...

The remarkable Alfred & Constance project in Brisbane holds such a warren of delights that we’re worried you might get lost, so we’ll start from the outside and lead you in from there. Named after the Fortitude Valley streets on which the properties sit, Alfred & Constance is a marriage of two long-standing traditional tongue-and-groove timber buildings that have been joined to form a beautiful multi-purpose leisure venue, incorporating a gastro-pub and café, as well as a series of little bars hidden round corners.

Designer Alexander Loterzstain was keen that visitors didn’t feel lost in a crowd, so purposefully created a number of distinctive areas that retain a sense of intimacy. If the buildings are old, his interiors are vintage – a series of wonderfully retro-themed, curiosity-packed spaces, from the sun-bleached surf vibe of the White Lightning Tiki bar to the frankly stunning black tiled dining area, complete with an incredible ornate period cabinet, chandelier and…skeleton.

The rest is an equally special treasure trove of design, junk-chic and wry humour that we’ll let you discover for yourselves.
