Cortina Hotel, Munich

Everything has been carefully arranged according to the principles of Feng Shui, so guests can expect health, wealth and happiness during their stay at the Old Town property...

It’s hard to put our finger on the aesthetic of the Cortina Hotel in Munich; it has a homely charm – the kind of home that looks a little like a ’70s throwback to our eyes, but to people of that decade would probably have seemed a bit sci-fi, a bit like the Ford car of the same name. We hope that makes at least some kind of sense…

It was designed by co-owner Albert Weinzierl and nestles under the wing of the Design Hotels collection, and while it has all the swish luxurious and modern elements one comes to expect from that stylish stable, the individualistic elements that separate the Cortina from the crowd – a beige velvet sofa cushion here, patterned wallpaper there – are definitely backwards in coming forwards. Weinzierl has taken pains to use local materials for his room décor, including bronze, stone and pine, and everything has been carefully arranged according to the principles of Feng Shui, so guests can expect health, wealth and happiness during their stay at the Old Town property.

The sense of homeliness has been taken further with the addition of an apartment wing, offering suites with kitchenettes for those who prefer to whip up their own breakfast kippers.
