The People’s Market, Melbourne

artisans and design-conscious retailers join forces in the name of style...

Hold on to your vintage hats Melbourne hipsters – sustainability, locality and 21st century community spirit just went into overdrive. Local architects Kristina Taranto and Steven Vidovic have given life to the second instalment of brother/sister duo Niki and Steve Filipovic’s The People’s Market: a delightful cultural hotpot of artisan commerce, art installations and grass roots foodie goodness.

A powerful mural from street artists Rone and Meggs dominates an eclectic yard of stalls that include big-name producers alongside less familiar artisans – previously featured The Super Cool are one of the design-conscious retailers popping up inside the numerous shipping containers dotted around the Collingwood site.

Open until 28th April, The PM (as it’s affectionately known) is a shining example of the type of locally-minded hipster spirit that makes Melbourne such an exciting city right now – with food, art, music, retail and even yoga joining the melting pot of style-aware charm on show at this summer establishment, there’s little excuse for not heading down to indulge.
