Craig & Karl for Vogue Japan

Pop-art duo lend their signature retro to Sixties-inspired photoshoot...

I’m sure the fashionistas amongst you will be all too aware that the Sixties are back with a bang, and who better to assist Vogue Japan in their 21st century vision of Swinging London than pop-art inspired duo Craig & Karl. The New York/London-based design duo, who handle long distance relationships better than those young lovers do in the movies, are no strangers to the bold, graphical aesthetic employed by the era’s iconic artists.

The end result, a collaboration with London-born photographer – and former Tim Walker assistant – Lacey, is a brilliantly brash treat that doesn’t feel out of place should it be a clipping from an original ’60s edition of Vogue, or this very March 2013 issue. The duo’s signature dots, thick lines and bold colour palettes are entwined into the photographs with deft flair; props, makeup and the clothes themselves all coalesced in a cascade of delicate retro. Splendid.
