Cornerstone Bar & Food

Sydney's art centre bar keeps it classy...

There’s an unmistakeable whiff of class about Cornerstone Bar and Food that wafts subtly around – maybe it’s the smell of the huge, deep leather sofas, the fragrance of the pampas grass, or something cooking in the kitchen we can’t quite put our finger on, but it’s there, hanging in the air where the cigar smoke used to be.

At the Carriageworks art centre’s former café, interior designers Humphrey and Edwards have kept things old school. Those Chesterfield’s look made for a post prandial brandy, the lampshades straight off the set of Boardwalk Empire. The wood, like the lighting, is on the darker side, the whole effect being intimate in what is a pretty big space. It’s not your chicken in a basket type place either – yes you can get a pizza deal on a Thursday night, but if you want something a bit more upmarket to munch on, how about some pea and fontina arancini balls? It beats a bag of peanuts in our book.
