Hally’s Café

Californian café culture brightens up Parsons Green...

For those who hang about in London’s well-to-do area of Parsons Green, life is already pretty sunny – to be blunt, it’s posh round there. But just because your house is worth a packet, doesn’t mean you can’t wish for more, maybe to swap the London grit for a bit of Californian sand every now and again. It rains on rich people too, you know.

To broaden the smile of the SW6ers is Hally’s from Alexander Waterworth Interiors; they last had us hankering for haddock in a super smart chippy, and they’re at it again with this beach café-style deli. Inside Hally’s white wood and brick bounce the sunlight around and create a real seaside atmosphere, and the tables made from scaffold boards have been left with the scars from their former life like sandblasted driftwood. This same scaffold material makes up the bar, which is mercifully lacking in a glass display top, instead being crowned with a lovely long piece of marble.

To stop the interior paling into insignificance, the raw wooden dining chairs have been dip-dyed in pastels to compliment the soft furnishings, and some solid industrial colour comes from the Tolix-style bar stools. A nice stretch of West Coast beach culture that some lucky Londoners can reach in their lunchtime.
