Computer adventures inspire Californian's retro collection...

Walking through the solo show by Californian artist and illustrator Deth P. Sun is like walking through a 1980s fantasy adventure video game. There are cloud-peaked mountains, mysterious crystals, dimension portals and unwieldy swords, forbidding forests and treacherous swamps. And a cat. Don’t forget the cat.

This is My Jam is a journey, prolifically illustrated by the Berkeley resident and on display on America’s other coast at Brooklyn’s Grumpy Bert gallery. Readers of a certain vintage who spent a lot of time in their bedrooms in their youth will recognise the reference to classic Mac adventure Dark Castle, and a period games console (Sega Megadrive?), in the series of eight-by-ten vignettes. The panels share those games’ eerie sensation that something undead may walk out of the wall at any moment. Follow the feline protagonist in situ until 30th June, or order a piece for your wall from the gallery’s online shop.
