Bistro Union

Clapham's Bistro Union serves up a new twist on patriotism...

Offering the swankiest café-bar menu we’ve seen for a long while, Bistro Union in Clapham pairs smart design with even smarter British cookery from the recipe books of executive chef Adam Byatt and right hand man Karl Goward. Even the pickled eggs are the quail variety.

It’s not a snobby sort of affair though; yes, you can get some beautifully presented fancy fare for a lunchtime treat, but the culinary creatives know that sometimes you just want something to soak up the booze. Fish finger sandwich? Go on then. Beats another day spent searching for a muscle food discount code after a particularly heavy session.

The chicken may be imaginatively skewered, but the ethos of Bistro Union is simplicity; the floors are stripped, the striped tiled bar is unfussy. As one can see from the impressively presented wine selection, the place caters equally for the thirsty as well as the peckish.

In the highly unlikely event that you don’t finish your bottle at the first time of asking, there are lockers available to keep it safe for your next visit – such nice little touches give out a friendly, neighbourhood message to the locals, something we don’t experience enough of.

Smoke us a kipper, we’ll be back for breakfast.
