When a creative studio is at work, it’s important to do so in a conducive environment, so when the Plusminusarchitects team from Bratislava got their hands on a four room flat in the city centre and set about making it their own, it wasn’t going to be a hive of cubicle partitions.
Despite a modest budget of 7,500 euros, what resulted is a lovely relaxed mixture of office and living room, with lots of living room atmosphere and no office stuffiness. There’s not a square of horrible grey felt covering the floor here, but beautifully waxed parquet wood. Original brickwork from the 1928 building, exposed save for a coat of whitewash, wraps around three sides of the studio, the other being a huge blackboard which is home to a tattooed bulldog bearing inspirational messages about the important things in life. As well as the business side of things, it also seems like a good place to kick back and have some fun, although someone will have to move the photocopier if we’re going to play darts there without doing some expensive damage.
