We Were All Here, Once could be a wonderful trip down memory lane, or a horrifying exposé of youthful fashion crimes and sexual indiscretions, – depending on how nostalgic you are, and whether you were out being badly behaved in Manchester in the late 1970s and early ’80s. That’s the period when David Chadwick was roaming nightclubs like Legends, The Sandpiper Club and Friday’s, taking candid snaps of characters from the Punk and New Romantic scenes.
Manchester’s Cornerhouse will be exhibiting the collection from 3 October to 5 November, and the gallery recently ran an appeal to identify some of the people in three of Chadwick’s images. The girl playfully threatening her friend with a bunch of fives, and the punk about to snog his mate are still to be unearthed, but the lissom lass looking lonely in Fallowfield has been found alive and well. We’d personally like to offer a star prize, cash value 50 pence, to the yoof, presumably back from an audition for The Young Ones, who is managing to both flick the v-sign and pick his nose in one gesture – well done that man. Greatness was surely just around the corner…
