Musical über-gadget turns anything into a drumset. Someone order a pizza...

Camberwell was forever immortalised as the birthplace of the Camberwell Carrot, the ludicrous superjoint made by Danny the dealer in Withnail and I, and Nick Brennan of the more recent Camberwell Collective product design group – recently exhibiting as part of this year’s designjunction – may well have come up with the ultimate stoner pastime with his Sound Pegs innovation. Obviously that’s not the official marketing policy and weed isn’t necessary to operate the rig, but surely it’s got to be recommended?! Well it is by us.

Oversized wooden clothes pegs, a box full of household objects and bosh, anyone can be Phil Collins, feelin’ it coming in the air tonight – the pegs work on anything they can get a grip on, but the sound that comes out when they are struck with the drumsticks is controlled via software – think of your sweaty trainers as subversive electronic drum pads, if you will. The smoothly robust, almost toy-like design makes it all look fiendishly simple, with Nick’s cleverness hidden under the hood and in the computer software that makes everything tick – it can use Apple’s Garageband or pretty much any MIDI drum machine program. BONGO SOLO!
