Anthony Burrill — I Like It. What Is It?

So True

Burrill's eye-catching posters prove that simple is best...

Graphic design demigod Anthony Burrill has a new book out called I Like It. What Is It?, and is marking the launch with an exhibition of the same name at KK Outlet. The Lancastrian is a renowned nice chap who by all accounts has avoided disappearing up his own arse despite achieving great success – his work has permanent homes at the V&A and New York’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, no less – and his work is marked by extraordinarily effective slogans and phrases whose strength lies in their simplicity. Even thinkers with fancy, brainy-sounding names such as Alain de Botton rate Burrill’s poster-friendly philosophy highly.

The pearls of wisdom that form this collection of 30 posters are delivered in bold but imperfect letterpress type and have been repurposed from previous collections for the book. Each one comes with a description of the project on the back, and the book also includes a sticker sheet with special inks. The exhibition will run at the Hoxton Square gallery from 8 to 30 November.
