Miami stylists to the stars Andrea Battista and Mario Silvestri know that there’s more to a look than just a nice hairdo, and so when they conceived their partnership’s first location, it needed to be more than just a hair salon. Operating together as Junior & Hatter, the pair sat down at the drawing board and designed the whole brand from top to bottom.
Premises came first, and the city’s up-and-coming living street art gallery, Wynwood Arts District, was the natural choice. The business occupies a space in the same building as our favourite Miami shoe store DelToro, which is marked out by its zebra stripes (not quite the traditional barber’s red and white, but a happy coincidence). The chaps made the interior their own, with a home-from-home approach and an inviting choice of vintage furnishings. Reclaimed wood also adds some warmth – pallets are used as partial partitions and boards clad one wall. In a salon full of highlights, two early 20th Century Emil J Paidar barber chairs stand out – they really don’t make them like that any more. Rounding out the experience is a range of accessories, which speaks to the brand’s holistic philosophy.
