When it was launched at the end of the 1940s, the bikini was a symbol of freedom and dynamism – qualities that underpinned the Bikini House in Berlin, designed in the 1950s by architects Paul Schwebes and Hans Schoszberger. Those same qualities have been preserved by the building’s current occupants, 25hours Hotels, in their fun-loving, free spirited hotel, Bikini Berlin.
Located on the ‘other side’ of Berlin, between the Tiergarten and Berlin Zoo on one side and the impressive Kurfürstendamm on the other, this city centre hotel has urban jungle outside, and urban jungle inside. Studio Aisslinger divided the 150-odd guest rooms into two classes; one jungle-themed, and the other urban. The former have views of the zoo’s ape house and elephant enclosure, and have been designed with natural materials and colours. The other half are rougher and edgier, reflecting their position looking over Berlin’s cityscape. Public spaces include the rooftop terrace Monkey Bar, and a dry sauna on the 9th floor, both taking advantage of the hotel’s great vantage point. There are a ton of other things in this hotel’s plus column, ranging from Schindelhauer bikes for the larger rooms to the in-house bakery. There is also a 15% rate discount for MINI drivers, which is nice for those that do.
