Sourced Market, St Pancras International

September 7th, 2010

Perhaps the first daily produce market to be located in an International train station, St Pancras’ Sourced Market is a true hidden gem, locally sourced artisan produce that is both accessible to the urban community, yet provides a welcome alternative to soulless chains and supermarkets… the ethos and atmosphere of London markets such as Borough or Broadway squeezed into the most challenging of urban settings. Designed by super-talented interiors expert Shaun Clarkson, and with some lovely branding courtesy of London agency Thoughtomatic, Sourced Market turn one today – and have a whole week of celebrations planned, so if you want the chance to win private wine tasting, a Neal’s Yard Dairy cheese tour, free Monmouth Coffee for a year, or any number of other foodie delights, then get following them on Twitter – and most importantly, get down to St Pancras where all the action is happening…

The Salad Shop, Singapore

August 20th, 2010

With a slogan that reads ‘for herbivores, carnivores, and everything else in-between’, Singapore’s The Salad Shop is a new Raffles Place fast-food/ready-to-go restaurant that, you guessed it… majors heavily in all things salad. Of course it’s not the grub, nice as it may be, that’s caught our eye – it’s the rather splendid interiors, courtesy of the supremely talented Singapore studio, Asylum – they who also designed the brilliant Chocolate Research Facility that we featured last year. Brilliantly oversized forks and spoons act as window masks, whilst an array of illustrated, bespoke designed stools add colour and character. The space itself is all streamlined industrial and the finishing touches to this eclectic interior are those wickedly hip ’scenic’ fabric lampshades. Modern, vibrant and endearing, Asylum have created a playful, inviting space that’s sure to be a success…

The Wapping Project, London

May 4th, 2010

Located midway between the City of London and Canary Wharf and situated inside what was once The Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, East London’s restaurant come art space – The Wapping Project – is a venue like no other… reminiscent of Tate Modern’s famous turbine hall, yet with a contemporary restaurant at the heart of it all. The Boiler and Filter Houses, stripped back to their 1890 form, provide dramatic exhibition and performance spaces, whist an in-house butchery and carefully sourced produce have defined Wapping Food and it’s place within London’s most serious restaurants…..

“Gloriette” by Campana Brothers

April 16th, 2010

Having worked with the likes of Andrée Putman, Karim Rashid, and Tom Dixon in the past, the fantastically cultured champagne house, Veuve Clicquot, are no strangers to collaborating on the most contemporary of design projects, and this year is no different. As part of the renovation of their Reims town house, Hôtel du Marc, Brazilian designers Fernando & Humberto Campana and French designer Mathieu Lehanneur have been invited to decorate the hotel with new works… works that are, this week, being showcased at the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair. We’ve bagged some exclusive photos of the Campana Brothers‘ piece, “Gloriette”, a structure that will sit in the gardens of the hotel, dedicated to outdoor tasting and champagne degustation…..

Smoke House Deli, New Delhi

March 26th, 2010

When commissioned to design a new deli from internationally renowned Indian restaurant Smoke House Grill, Mumbai based environment designers, The Busride, were posed with the task of creating “a fun, informal, buzzing Deli space, which turns into a mood-lit, quieter and more romantic evening space.” Their response was to throw convention to the wind and deliver a truly original space… challenging the diners conception of what is 2D and what is 3D by hand illustrating – over a 25 day period – each and every element of the interior, from the outdoor signage and main door, to wallpapers, cabinets and even objects such as the phone. Eccentric, captivating and, most importantly of all, inviting, the space created for New Delhi’s ‘Smoke House Deli’ is an unequivocal success….

Lick, Brighton

With a beautifully simplistic interior and brand identity – we positively adore their quite brilliant logo – courtesy of West Wales based Freshwest, Brighton’s Lick also began life on the Pembrokeshire coast, when school friends Owain Williams and Ky Wright bought an ice cream trike and taught themselves how to make frozen yoghurt and ice cream…. A roaring success, thanks to their use of completely natural ingredients – and, of course, a lot of dedication and hard work – the pair soon set about a move to the south coast, and found themselves The Sunday Times’ ‘most likely to succeed brand’…. with a simple message, great product and lovable aesthetic, who can blame them?

Outsider Tart, London

March 22nd, 2010

Americans David Lesniak and David Muniz discovered, upon moving to London, that “good, wholesome, home made cupcakes, sweet pies and fresh tarts were hard to come by” and as such, sought to rectify this situation by founding their very own slice of Stateside goodness, Outsider Tart. Offering the likes of scones, brownies, muffins, biscuits and, of course, the ubiquitous cupcakes, the two David’s have enjoyed somewhat of a cult following for their delectable treats, and with a delivery service around London, a piece of American indulgence is never far away…. the problem with having your goods delivered however? You miss out on the shop’s stupendously chic interior….

Gaucho, Leeds

March 19th, 2010

With Manchester being the trendy Argentine influenced chain’s only previous venture outside the capital, the opening of Gaucho’s Leeds outpost has been met with much approval, especially given the intense rivally between the cities. A long-standing celeb fave, Gaucho, with it’s glamourous interiors – all mirrored panels, cowhides and subtle lighting – and internationally renowned steak cuts is Leeds’ latest ‘place to be, and to be seen’…..
