Former Dior Homme creative director, and responsible for the famous skinny black suit / white shirt / black tie silhouette that became synonymous with the brand and of those in the UK indie scene who so regularly sported the look – most famously including friend and muse, Peter Doherty – Frenchman Hedi Slimane also has a keen ear for upcoming talent. And, there’s no hotter an upcoming talent in the UK right now than Manc kids – and we quite literally mean kids – Egyptian Hip Hop…..
Spanish photographer's desolate yet beautiful images....

Upon reading of Namibia’s abandoned diamond mines, Lanzarote/Barcelona-based photographer Alvaro Sanchez-Montañes, set himself on one day documenting the ghost towns and disused properties that had been, over time, ravaged by the unforgiving Namib desert. The otherworldly images that he finally captured look part art-installation, part post-apocalyptic, yet the beauty of the starkness encapsulated within these images manages to portray desolation and loneliness as magical and mysterious. Sanchez-Montañes’ breathtaking photographs are as inspirational as they are intriguing…..

Coinciding with the theatrical release of the highly lauded “When you’re Strange” documentary, Shoreditch’s brilliant Idea Generation Gallery, in conjunction with Morrison Hotel Gallery, is currently playing host to a mesmerising collection of photographs – iconic shots alongside more personal reflections – by Henry Diltz, Joel Brodsky, Bobby Klein and Ken Regan, who all documented the sensationally controversial, and quite brilliant, band at the height of their popularity – and notoriety. Showing until 27th August at 11 Chance Street, this is a must for anyone with even the slightest interest in rock history…..

As the ’starchitect’ behind hugely famous, titanium-clad behemoths such as Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum and LA’s Walt Disney Concert Hall – 81 year old Canadian-American, Frank Gehry and his practice – Gehry Partners, LLP – rarely shy from delivering truly awe-inspiring buildings, that become instant icons. Their latest offering, Las Vegas’ The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, is no different – as we see in this beautiful set of images from Washington D.C. born photographer, Matthew Carbone. Unmistakably Gehry, the centre is quite literally a vision of twisted genius, with it’s warped façade carried through into a fantastically distorted interior, this is an icon for Vegas that is truly like no other…..

We love East London’s über-hip outfitters, Lazy Oaf and we also love the vividly brilliant photography of Dan Wilton – we were therefore suitably blown away when their latest Lookbook – their super-cool SS10 collection, shot on Southend-on-Sea’s seafront by Wilton – dropped into our inbox. Kind of a wonderfully “fuck you” Brit alternative to those preppy New England shoots you see in GQ, the label’s beautifully illustrative style – bright, bold graphic prints – looks better than ever with the backdrop of the brash, trashy British seaside, so perfectly captured by Wilton…..

So taken with photographer Venetia Dearden’s work were iconic British fashion house Mulberry that they’ve gone and sponsored the publication of her new book – a beautiful collection of Glasto-inspired photography that includes portraits of artists, performers and revelers alongside iconic, atmospheric shots of the site. The result is a very special document of a festival like no other – and of course, an obligatory campaign from Mulberry – that being their “Peace Love Mud” mini-site and cute installations in their Bond Street and Madison Avenue stores that exhibit, alongside beautiful bags that you’d be clinically insane to take to the festival, a series of the book’s most provocative shots. All in all, a corporate/art collaboration that really works and takes nothing from the festival’s unique place in our hearts….

This week’s pick from the endless pool of photography talent that is Flickr, is the wonderfully talented Korean, Nina Ahn…. based in Seoul, Nina’s images are a charming, melodramatic affair that consistently touch on the surreal. Playful, sensitive and touching, you could gaze into her thoughtful images for hours… and seeing as it’s Friday afternoon, we may just do that….

With an eye for colour tones and for haunting, melancholy atmospherics, Norfolk’s Simon Marsham is our pick of the week from Flickr’s deep, dark pool of photographic talent. With a passion for over exposed film, confused sentiments and dreamy settings, Marsham delivers images that look like Slowdive or Chapterhouse once sounded….
