Maybe it’s just age, but at times we dearly miss C60s with tape all over, the inevitably broken off, write-protection tab, multiple sticky labels layered on top of one another and the total randomness of whatever you choose to scrawl on the cover. Upon being commissioned by German storage specialists, Freecom, Brussels based practice Sylvain Willenz clearly harboured the same wistful emotions for personalised data – giving their new CLS range of mobile drives a touch of the retros, with a little touch of modern sophistication on top. With 250gb drives from £70 and a 3-drive dock for just £16, Freecom’s CLS range has instantly installed itself as our backup method of choice, now where have those felt-tips gotten too…

The question of ‘what next?’ for television is one often at the forefront of any tech-head’s mind, the integration into the digital home of free-flowing media content, high speed internet and social networks is leaving the humble TV looking more and more like a tech relic as the big players continue to stumble over how to truly achieve next-gen viewing. Consider the number of times, when watching the box, you’ll grab your iPhone/iPad/MacBook/similar-inferior-device to Wiki ‘what’s he off?’, Shazam are song, place a bet on a sports match, or perhaps be reminded to book tickets for a concert or event. Now consider Irish agency Notion’s inspired MetaMirror concept…..

Co-founded by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Mike McCue and former iPhone engineer Evan Doll, and with some serious backing – a reported $10.5m from the likes of Twitter creator Jack Dorsey, Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz and popular filmstar thoroughly annoying Punk’d presenter turned social media giant, Ashton Kutcher – and the acquisition of real-time web intelligence startup, Ellerdale, Flipboard is evidently no ‘flash-in-the-pan’, bedroom-produced application, and with a genuine buzz being felt amongst those at the forefront of publishing, it’s certainly realistic to utter that this could be the first major player in revealing the iPad for the game-changer it’s earmarked to be…..

Adopting a rather different approach to Kee Utility Inc’s slick, contemporary ‘Desk Phone Dock for iPhone‘ – retro revivalists Hulger, who claim to bring humanity back to technology, create a number of solutions for transforming your iPad, or iPhone, into an altogether more vintage proposition – with the help of the Skype app. We love seeing a fusion of old and new, and these decidedly cool handsets are a quirky, captivating sight…..

April 12th, 2010
Clean, stylish, slick… and, oh so Apple… Seoul based company, Kee Utility Inc. have rewritten the desk top phone handbook, with a little help from everyone’s favourite smartphone. Serving both as a dock for your iPhone, and a fully integrated wired desk phone, the ‘Desk Phone Dock‘ – they’re not as good at naming things as they are designing them – is quite simply the most useful, and certainly one of the most alluringly beautiful, iPhone docks on the market. Currently showing at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong, we can’t get any information on availability, however, if they’re showcasing this product at the exhibition, we can positively guarantee that you’ll have seeing more of this sensationally conceived, and poorly named iPhone accessory….

The results will showcase at next week’s fair and, upon being given the opportunity to interview both Sony’s project leader Kaz Ichikawa and BarberOsgerby, we decided we’d get our readers involved…..

startling audiovisual performance on freshly constructed building....

AntiVJ, a media performance group of European artists, recently took over the façade of one of New Songdo City’s recently constructed buildings, projecting onto it, an awe-inspiring audiovisual presentation. An inspired homage to technology and construction itself, Songdo is a futuristic masterplan city being built on 1,500 acres of reclaimed land in South Korea, along Incheon’s waterfront, and AntiVJ’s work explores a similar theme to the development, that of the “importance of technology, the coexistence of the ancient and the new and the presence of the sea as both a calming and menacing element”. Ambitious, beautiful and inspirational, AntiVJ’s Songdo performance throws down a gauntlet for all future multimedia installations, worldwide….
