Tucked away in the corner of your suburban garden like the bastard offspring of a traditional garden shed and a lunar landing module, the Archipod is a whole new reason to work from home. Centered around the concept of removing the tie between work and home, the Archipod allows for an external working space without the cost, bureaucracy and inconvenience of building an extension or out-building. Of course it’s not just your office you could set up in your ‘pod… it’s an ideal space for a mini recording studio, a rather luxurious playroom for the kids, or perhaps just loading with tools and acting as a designer replacement for your shed… whatever you do with it, you’ll have endless hours of fun watching the neighbours reaction to the wooden spaceship that’s taken up residence in your cabbage patch….

Not the sort of glamorous location particularly famed for cutting edge architecture and design, this is the first, and could quite possibly be the last, post we write about Aberystwyth. Having said that, London based architects, Heatherwick studio, have brought rural Wales right into the 22nd century with these beautifully futuristic low-cost business units for sixteen start-up arts enterprises for Aberystwyth Arts Centre, part of the University of Wales Aberystwyth. Cheaply produced stainless steel the thickness of kitchen foil creates the unique crinkled appearance of these intriguing business pods whilst reflecting the trees, leaves and sky of the surrounding forest.

It wasn’t too long ago that we brought you ‘Meet at the Apartment‘, a luxurious, chic meeting and conference space in the heart of Manhattan and it seems now that chic conferencing is a trend on the rise, thanks to this stunning new work from Dutch architecture and design consultancy, 123DV. Located in the Jaarbeurs complex, Utrecht, Netherlands, this congress facility with 8 meeting rooms has been designed to offer flexibility for clients who are looking for non-conformist meeting space and is a cacophony of light, space and interactive projections.

The usually involve a lot of pen-top chewing, doodling, watch checking and vacant glances, but business meetings don’t need to be as dull as they often are, or at least that’s what ‘Meet at the Apartment‘ are telling us, and looking at what they have on offer, who are we to disagree. Meet is an innovative new concept in business meeting that is the brainchild of Sara and Marc Schiller. A two-story, 2,500-square-foot SoHo loft has been transformed by the duo, with the help of The Apartment (one of New York’s premier design consultancies), into a creative setting for meetings, conferences, pitches, brainstorming sessions, or whatever meet you may have arranged.

If like us, you spend a quite positively frightening amount of time in front of a computer at a desk then you will already know the importance of making that time as comfortable as possible, although lots of us neglect the aesthetics of our work stations, opting for knocked off office furniture (IKEA at best, or is that worst?) and an unhealthy amount of clutter. We’ve decided therefore to bring you a short guide to introducing some much needed style and elegance into your home office / studio / work place. Enjoy, and stay work-chic
