Maison et Objet kicks off today, and one project sure to cause a particularly exquisite kerfuffle is the Jaime Hayon conceived Lladró Atelier collection, The Guest. Inviting cutting-edge international artists to bestow an idiosyncratic personality for a unique porcelain character; Hayon’s ongoing project will see the first pieces making their debut at the Parisian interiors fair, with characters from the Spaniard himself, along with American artist Tim Biskup and Japanese studio Devilrobots. The Guests are limited to 250 units for the large model, whilst the smaller little fellow comes in a numbered series. If you want to get your greasy mits on these shiny little porcelain wonders then you’ll no doubt have to move fast, and dig deep into your pockets – but as the project continues, with more invited artists creating more quirky little delights, this collaboration is one to watch…

Bit of a treat for a Wednesday morning this one, 2 new collaborations between the constantly innovating Radiohead frontman, habitual collaborator Kieran Hebden and the ever-elusive South London dubstep pioneer, Burial, have made their way online and, in due course, onto We Heart. Anyone with more than a passing interest in the electronic music scene will have easily been able to describe the contents of the Oxford boys’ record box upon just a brief listen to The King of Limbs, and with Yorke having made no secret of his love for bleeps and beats and emotional post-dubstep – most recently in an LA DJ set – it’s perhaps no surprise that this meeting of minds has taken place. Forthcoming on Hebden’s Text Records imprint, Ego and Mirror are further evidence that Radiohead are the most important band of our generation. Coldplay, Kings of Leon, U2, THIS is what being the biggest band in the world is all about…

You may recall us featuring Vancouver based “experimental visual workshop” Chairman Ting recently – with their rather lovely collaboration on Tangible Interaction’s Vinyl Cube – and they’re back on We Heart again, courtesy of this super-cute collaboration with adidas Originals at their flagship Hong Kong store. Custom painted pieces, art installations, a digital graffiti wall – again in collaboration with Tangible Interaction – and a live digital music performance from Tom Pettapiece aka Straight leg, took place at a celeb-packed invite only event at the flagship store. Showcasing the delightfully unique style of Carson Ting alongside the studio’s lust for collaboration and innovation, Forces of Nice is another example of just why we love Chairman Ting’s work so, so much…
As part of the renovation of their Reims town house, Hôtel du Marc, Brazilian designers Fernando & Humberto Campana and French designer Mathieu Lehanneur have been invited to decorate the hotel with new works… works that are, this week, being showcased at the 2010 Milan Furniture Fair. We’ve bagged some exclusive photos of the Campana Brothers‘ piece, “Gloriette”, a structure that will sit in the gardens of the hotel, dedicated to outdoor tasting and champagne degustation…..

Being of the privileged generation who have experienced both life with and life without the Internet, we often face the dilemma, “what Internet experiences have truly changed our lives?” Some may say that Internet shopping has revolutionised the entire world of commerce, others will talk with great excitement about how information on just about anything is accessible within seconds from just about anywhere. We on the other hand are always on the look out for something a little different, and probably not so profound, Kutiman, an Israeli afro-beat/electro/funk producer has produced one such example of earth shattering greatness. Sampling 100′s of freaks, geeks and undiscovered bedroom artists from various YouTube videos, Kutiman has created an Internet phenomena that could rival porn, yes, it’s that good. Thru You is, as far as we know, the first and if not, certainly the finest, collection of YouTube mash-ups that beggar belief in their complexity and innovation, the beauty being that Kutiman has created tracks which standalone when listened to without the accompanying video cut-up’s and in the process could well have unearthed some future stars. Stay tuned, YouTube sampling could be the next big thing.

Starting his career in the late 1970′s by making stage outfits for his downtown neighbour Debbie Harry, his work soon influenced popular culture worldwide and continues to do so today with this posthumous collection (Sprouse died tragically in 2004) faithfully designed by Marc Jacobs. The range of leather goods, accessories, shoes and streetwear certainly won’t be the most subtle or reserved collection of 2009, but true to Sprouse’s pop-art vision and punk aesthetic it is bold, exciting and still relevant today.

A 1980′s style gym kit with wristbands, headband and towel, neon sunglasses, achingly cool sneaker-boots and even a motif-clad skateboard are all part of the streetwear influenced collection. If you want to see more of Sprouse’s artwork and are lucky enough to be in New York between now and February 28th then head over to 18 Wooster Street to catch the Rock on Mars exhibition showcasing some of his finest works.

Sprouse’s work is also now the subject of a brilliant new coffee table art book released this month, ‘The Stephen Sprouse Book‘ features never before seen sketches, interviews with friends from the world of music, art and fashion, photographs and an exhaustive body of his finest work.
