Hollywood Sign Concept by Bayarch

April 27th, 2010

With news today that the 138 acres that surround the iconic hillside sign are to be protected – thanks, in no small part, to a £580,000 donation courtesy of ‘The Heff’ – from investors, whose plans were to develop the land with a high-end housing estate, we thought we’d show you this exceptionally lavish concept by well-respected Danish agency, Bayarch. Offering a unique vision for the famous sign, Bayarch propose a sensational hotel, spa, cinema and clubs to overlook the City of Angels, whilst still maintaining the iconic panorama… perhaps someone should show this to the star-studded trust who have ended the prospect of development by purchasing the land for $12.5 from a group of Chicago investors…..

Dumbfoundead: Jam Session 2.0

February 5th, 2010

Very little information around as to exactly how this was put together, but one thing’s for sure, is that the end result quite simply demands your attention. LA based emcee, Dumbfoundead – aka Johnathan Park – fronts an 8 person multinational collective, who with some magic from LA’s interactive media agency, Cain Mosni, have created a unique online jam session that pays homage to Galt MacDermot’s 1966 ‘Coffee Cold’ and Handsome Boy Modeling School’s MacDermot sampling 1999 track, ‘The Truth’. Just another example of how today’s technology, when used in the right hands, can create original and truly inspiring art.

It’s often the case that the best looking clubs are the ones lacking in atmosphere and great music, we haven’t had the fortune to make it to The Conga Room in Los Angeles yet, however, if the vibe, music and ambiance come anywhere close to the design, courtesy of California’s Belzberg Architects, then this 14,000 sf live music venue space is sure to be one of the highlights of the L.A club scene. Having hosted Tito Puente and the Buena Vista Social Club, Carlos Santana and Shakira, The Conga Room has been L.A’s premier latin club since 1998 and it’s new home, completed last year, is a stunning contemporary space that includes a restaurant, three bars, patio seating and a VIP lounge and private room that all respect the Latin communities heritage, yet ooze modern L.A cool.

Los Angeles Mondrian

September 11th, 2008

Following a pretty bad 2007 which included a dead rapper being found in a room amongst reports of a general decline, the landmark LA hotel (originally designed by design superstar, Philippe Starck and opened in 1996) has undergone somewhat of a freshening up at the hands of acclaimed, award winning designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz. A Hollywood style bash where hoards of celebs and Paris Hilton enjoyed a live performance by Cat Power was held last week (4th September) in the remodeled ADCB bar to relaunch this iconic hotel and it’s restored feeling of grandeur.
