December 22nd, 2009

Celebrating their 15th year, Diesel’s streetwear offshoot, 55DSL, have collaborated once again with Adidas Originals, following their XV/55 trainers back in May, with this kicking range of 5 t-shirts, featuring visuals created by Barcelona creatives, Vasava. Originally designed as elements for the wonderful 3D video [below] that promoted the XV/55’s, the t-shirt’s brilliantly bold imagery is typically ’skate’, fresh and available now from 55DSL and Adidas Originals stores nationwide.

Art & Sole

October 5th, 2008

Since hip-hop first chose the sports shoe as it’s footwear of choice, the humble sneaker has been a mainstay of the counterculture, and in recent years, the lines between design, art and streetwear have been increasingly blurred. Art & Sole is an excellent new book from London based graphic design agency Intercity which explores the relationship between design, art and sneakers, and showcases the best new collaborations and limited edition ranges.

The famous American outdoor clothing company Penfield have teamed up with our favourite exclusive streetwear champions, Alife, once more. This time however, the Windrunner is a shift away from the previously heavy winter jackets that this collaboration has seen, but no less stylish. This showerproof outdoor jacket with heavy Alife Rivington Club branding is available now from ultra-cool online store Oki ni.

New to streetwear gods Alife? Check out some of their stores after the jump……..

Bape stores are always pretty lavish affairs. Around the world Nigo has established A Bathing Ape, along with Pharrell collaborations Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, as the high-end streetwear labels and the wild, retrotastic yet methodically imagined and meticulously constructed store designs exemplify the brands status. This years Harajuku addition is designed as a ‘town within a building’ and certainly shows that there are no signs of the brand’s in-store inventiveness slowing down.

As we worryingly grow nearer to the end of another decade, the retro movement seems to be closer to today than ever before. Take for example these rather spiffing Reebok Pumps, popular in the early 90’s, a time which (for us oldies) seems like yesterday. Let us not get caught up in worrying nostalgic thoughts however and focus on the fact that this iconic sneaker is as relevant today as it was almost 20 years ago, when of course wearing a pair of these in public would have seen you promptly mugged and de-shoed, due to their hefty price tag and ‘bling’ status. Lovingly recreated for todays retro market with retina-shattering fluorescent pink and yellow, these legendary Reebok’s look as good today as they ever have.

Recommended listening for reading this post, Pilotpriest’s quite spiffing remix of the Run DMC classic ‘My Adidas’, why? Because it’s a pumped up, loud and creative version of the original, in fact, just like these souped up custom Stan Smith sneakers from Swedish creatives ‘Look Down‘.
