Home / Unusual Store; the architect’s vision is in the name. Luigi Valente states his intention for the retail space to be “a place like home”, but on the contrary “a fantasy place that projects the client far away”. It’s perhaps a paradox too far, unless you live in the future, but what Valente has undeniably achieved, is a thoroughly exciting retail space that belies its diminutive space. Exposed concrete, monochrome colour scheme, arty lighting and Zaha Hadid-esque seating; it’s all very en vogue, and all very effortlessly realised. Luigi Valente’s Home / Unusual Store may not be a fantasy-land cum home, but it’s a bloody good looking shop, and surely that’s all that matters…

Dudes Factory, Berlin

One of the latest openings in a city famed for its street-art, designers, illustrators and all round creativity, is Dudes Factory, a fabulously unique laboratory cum boutique, that allows visitors to consume, deconstruct and experiment with art and design – a space for design junkies, illustration appreciators, graphic art obsessives and experimentalists alike. Founded by former ad-agency duo Arnaud Loix van Hooff and Heribert Willmerdinger, Dudes Factory offers creative workshops, tutorials and presentations alongside a selection of products that can be customised and created with their unique online ‘Dudes LAB‘ software – a place that erodes the boundaries between the end-user and the artist, allowing for the deconstruction of illustrations, the outcome being entirely artworks that can be applied to t-shirts, accessories or many other diverse products. Keeping it fresh on a regular basis, new artists are invited to provide unique works especially for the factory, with the owners challenging them to embrace new materials and techniques, the results of which are displayed in-store and available for consumer deconstruction via the LAB. If you’re a fan of street-art inspired graphics and want to challenge your creativity, van Hooff and Willmerdinger’s Berlin-based Dudes Factory is certainly the right place to start…

Celebrating their 15th year, Diesel’s streetwear offshoot, 55DSL, have collaborated once again with Adidas Originals, following their XV/55 trainers back in May, with this kicking range of 5 t-shirts, featuring visuals created by Barcelona creatives, Vasava. Originally designed as elements for the wonderful 3D video [below] that promoted the XV/55′s, the t-shirt’s brilliantly bold imagery is typically ‘skate’, fresh and available now from 55DSL and Adidas Originals stores nationwide.

BAPE® Store, London

Following a 6 month residence at ‘Nowhere’, Dover Street Market, A BATHING APE® have relaunched their first flagship European store in Soho, London. Again designed by long term collaborator, Masamichi Katayama, founder of interior design firm Wonderwall (see the Harajuku, Tokyo store we featured back in July last year) and re-built within its former 4 Upper James Street premises, BAPE® London uses aluminum, stainless steel, & neon materials to create a spacious retail environment within 750sq ft. Stocking limited edition label staples along with a number of exclusive items available solely in the UK that include T-shirts, BAPE® STA and other BAPE® footwear along with tailored pieces, shirting, watches, ties, socks & underwear.
