With a goal of bringing together “diverse, aesthetically talented and open-minded people from around the world”, San Francisco based LOOKBOOK.nu is an online fashion community inspired by the ’street style’ blogs made famous by the likes of ‘The Sartorialist‘ and ‘Face Hunter‘. With their finger always firmly on the pulse, clothing giant American Apparel set about inviting LOOKBOOK.nu’s active, international community to submit photographs of themselves in their American Apparel best for a new, well, ‘lookbook’…. Overwhelmed with high quality submissions, the highlights now form a suitably stylish, 64-page lookbook that features 132 looks from 77 global users…..

So, let’s get this straight, Three Frames isn’t going to be winning any accolades from high-brow press anytime soon, nor is it likely to win any awards, but for a uniquely subversive art concept it sure is entertaining. De-constructing famous, but for the majority by no means critically acclaimed, movies into a three frame (it’s all in the name you see) animated gif is a bold concept which, on the whole, pays off. Funny, bizarre and strangely cool, the low quality of the high compression file format, coupled with the use of tacky eighties straight-to-video movie clips, lend each image a uniquely retro feel that leaves you wanting more. Good job they’re updating daily then!
Being of the privileged generation who have experienced both life with and life without the Internet, we often face the dilemma, “what Internet experiences have truly changed our lives?” Some may say that Internet shopping has revolutionised the entire world of commerce, others will talk with great excitement about how information on just about anything is accessible within seconds from just about anywhere. We on the other hand are always on the look out for something a little different, and probably not so profound, Kutiman, an Israeli afro-beat/electro/funk producer has produced one such example of earth shattering greatness. Sampling 100’s of freaks, geeks and undiscovered bedroom artists from various YouTube videos, Kutiman has created an Internet phenomena that could rival porn, yes, it’s that good. Thru You is, as far as we know, the first and if not, certainly the finest, collection of YouTube mash-ups that beggar belief in their complexity and innovation, the beauty being that Kutiman has created tracks which standalone when listened to without the accompanying video cut-up’s and in the process could well have unearthed some future stars. Stay tuned, YouTube sampling could be the next big thing.
Probably the single most exciting thing about music is new discoveries and over the years the majority of these have probably come from reading about what your favourite bands are listening to and what’s influencing their music. Well thanks to My Secret Playlist you can now hear those new discoveries too as they invite their favourite bands and musicians to discuss eight of their favourite songs or albums, the interviews are published on the site along with the tracks to listen along to and you can even get the latest playlists sent to you in a twice-weekly email newsletter. Where has this website been all our lives?
